Horse Racing Gallery

National Sports Museum — 2020

The Horse Racing Gallery at the National Sports Museum (now known as the Australian Sports Museum) was a dedicated exhibition space celebrating the rich history and culture of horse racing in Australia, showcasing iconic Thoroughbred horses, famous jockeys and trainers, racing memorabilia and trophies such as Melbourne Cup artefacts. It placed horse racing alongside other major Australian sports within the museum's broader narrative of national sporting achievement. The gallery's origins at the MCG date back to the opening of the Champions Gallery on 30 September 2010, just ahead of the Spring Racing Carnival and the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup, and after the museum's redevelopment it was relaunched as the Horse Racing Gallery in February 2020 as part of the updated Australian Sports Museum experience.
